Appliance repair statistics

This page presents an overview of appliance repair interventions recorded in the proprietary Archimede management system. The dataset comprises 906,994 interventions carried out from July 2019 to March 2026.

The data comes from the activity of service centres within the Archimede network and independent professionals who use the management system. These are real operational records — not an estimate of the wider repair market.

Source and methodology

The data covers appliance repair interventions recorded in the proprietary Archimede management system from July 2019 to March 2026. The system is used by network service centres and independent professionals.

These figures do not represent the appliance repair market as a whole. They represent the activity logged within our system — a substantial dataset (over 900,000 interventions) but limited to centres that use the software. Brand distribution percentages reflect commercial market share, not product quality or reliability.

Frequently asked questions

Which appliance breaks down the most?

The washing machine, by a clear margin. It accounts for 33% of all repair interventions recorded in the Archimede management system — nearly one in three. The dishwasher follows at 24.8% and the fridge at 18.9%. Together, these three appliances make up 77% of all interventions.

Which appliance brands are repaired the most?

Bosch leads at 9.0%, followed by Whirlpool (8.1%), Ariston (8.0%) and Samsung (7.9%). No single brand exceeds 10%, which points to a remarkably even distribution. These figures reflect market share rather than reliability — a widely sold brand will naturally generate more repair requests.

What is the most common appliance fault?

"Won't start" is the single most reported fault, at 14.2% of all interventions (88,939 cases). It affects every appliance type. Next come "won't cool" (9.4%, predominantly fridges) and "water leak" (8.0%). The ten most common faults together account for 71% of all recorded cases.

How many interventions are these statistics based on?

The dataset comprises 906,994 repair interventions recorded in the Archimede management system between July 2019 and March 2026. The system is used by network service centres and independent professionals. These are real operational records, though they do not represent the appliance repair market as a whole.

Do tumble dryers break down often?

Tumble dryers account for 6.5% of all interventions (58,572 cases), placing them fourth overall behind washing machines, dishwashers and fridges. Their most common fault is "won't dry", at 24.1% — a single clearly dominant problem, unlike washing machines where faults are more evenly spread.

Do these data show which brands are least reliable?

No. The brand distribution reflects commercial market presence, not product reliability. A brand with a high share of repairs is a widely sold brand, not necessarily a less reliable one. Equally, a brand with few repair records may simply have a smaller market footprint. These figures should not be read as a reliability ranking.
